Kranti Gaud celebrates after scripting history with India’s Lord’s Test win
Madhya Pradesh Sports Minister Vishwas Kailash Sarang on Thursday praised Indian fast bowler Kranti Gaud for her match-winning performance in the women’s team’s historic Test win over England at Lord’s earlier this week.
Gaud, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, was felicitated at the TT Nagar Stadium after playing a major role in India’s emphatic 270-run victory. The 21-year-old finished the match with seven wickets to help India secure their first ever women’s Test win at the iconic venue.
He also saw a breakthrough performance Gaud became the first Indian cricketer to have her name inscribed on the prestigious Lord’s Honors Board, marking another milestone in Indian women’s cricket.
Congratulating the pacer, Sarang said that Gaud has brought pride not only to Madhya Pradesh but to the entire country.
“Her success is an inspiration for the daughters of the state and young athletes,” the minister said.
Highlighting the state government’s focus on sports development, Sarang said the Mohan Yadav-led administration was committed to nurturing sports talent through better infrastructure, better training facilities and more opportunities for sportspersons. He added that rural children are now gaining ground nationally and internationally thanks to the expansion of sports facilities outside urban centres.
After the congratulations, Gaud described India’s win at Lord’s as the biggest moment of her career.
“Being part of India’s victory at Lord’s was the greatest moment of my life for me and my family,” she said.
Gaud said she immediately video called her family after seeing her name on the Lord’s Honors Board and shared the historic moment with them.
“Every cricketer’s dream is to have their name on the honor board. I am honored to be the first Indian cricketer to have her name there. This achievement belongs not only to me but to my family, my coaches, Madhya Pradesh and the entire country,” Gaud said.
Gaud’s performance was one of the defining factors in India’s overall victory as her seven-wicket haul in the entire match helped seal a memorable 270-run triumph and secure one of the most significant overseas Test victories in the history of Indian women’s cricket.
