Two persons arrested for possession of country-made weapons in Vellore

Two persons were arrested by the Odugathur police in Vellore for possession of one country-made weapon during a vehicle check on Wednesday.

Police said the arrested persons were identified as K. Satish Kumar (32) and his accomplice R. Babu (23). They were residents of Tiruvannamalai district. Initial investigation revealed that a team of police personnel was conducting a routine vehicle check at Arasampatti village in the foothills of Jawadhu Hills in Vellore when the moving car failed to stop at the police check.

As police gave chase and approached the car, three unknown persons fled the scene with a country-style weapon. The police managed to arrest the remaining two people in the vehicle.

Police said the gang was on its way to forests in Jawadhu Hills along the Tiruvannamalai-Tirupattur border to hunt small wild animals and sell their meat in the open market. The gang procured weapons known in Kerala for hunting purposes.

Police said a case has been registered and special teams have been formed to nab the suspects. A country weapon and a car were seized. A probe is underway.
