Minor earthquake hit Krishnagiri area

A minor earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale struck Krishnagiri district on Wednesday (July 15, 2026) at 7:52 pm.
Citing data from the National Center for Seismology, the Regional Meteorological Center said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km, with an epicenter in the Denkanikottai-Hosur area of Krishnagiri district, near the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border.
Officials noted that a seismic event of this magnitude is classified as a minor earthquake and could be felt by people in areas near the epicenter, including Krishnagiri, Hosur and adjoining areas of Karnataka and surrounding areas.
However, minor seismic events generally do not cause structural damage.
