Plus one reception probably from May 25
The Department of General Education is preparing a call for applications for the Plus One Single Window starting May 25.
The final date is yet to be confirmed as the number of seats in some districts is less than the number of students who have completed SSLC.
Currently, there are 3,60,844 posts at higher secondary level, 33,000 posts at vocational higher secondary level and over 30,000 posts at polytechnics and ITIs available in the state, according to the ministry.
However, 4,10,456 students were eligible for higher studies this year.
A proposal was made to the government to allow a marginal increase in the number of seats up to 30% and to continue the rations temporarily sanctioned and shifted to the Malabar region as in the past. However, a government order will need to be issued, subject to Cabinet ratification, to increase the number of places in time for students to submit their applications.
Last year, the increase in seats from marginal seat additions and batch transfers reached more than 80,000.
However, with the announcement of Plus two results on May 26 and Bakrid on May 28, another date – May 29 – is being considered. This is also so that the SSLC revaluation results can be announced before the first allotment, allowing for timely entry of updated marks of students before allotment.
The trial allotment should be released on May 8. This will be followed by three allocations in the main phase. Classes could start in the first week of July. Additional allocation will also take place.
The minister’s office also wants the admissions to start on May 25 and the existing process is followed and no student is denied Plus one admission.
