Discoloration of Donald Trump’s left hand draws attention after new photo emerges | Today’s news
New photos of US President Donald Trump have sparked fresh online debate after visible bruising and discoloration appeared on the back of his left hand.
The images drew attention because similar marks had previously been spotted primarily on Trump’s right hand during several public appearances.
The latest photos show a darkened area and a bruise on the back of the president’s left hand. While the White House has not issued a new statement on the images, the stamps have once again become a topic of public debate.
Trump has previously addressed questions about bruises on his hands. In an interview with journalists, he said that the stamp was created by an accidental strike of the hand on the table.
“I pinned it to the table,” Trump said.
He also noted that he regularly takes aspirin, which can make the bruises more noticeable.
“I take a big aspirin. The doctors said, ‘You don’t need to take it, sir, you’re very healthy.’ I said, ‘I’m not going to take any chances.'”
Aspirin is known to reduce blood clotting, which can increase the likelihood of bruising even after minor bumps or injuries.
Bruises at many public events
The issue first gained widespread attention in February when photos showed a bruise on Trump’s right hand during a White House meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. Similar clues emerged again in July during a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Scotland, where the area appeared to be covered in makeup, and again during an August Oval Office meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt previously said the bruises were most likely caused by “frequent handshakes” combined with Trump’s aspirin use.

Trump in ‘excellent health’ after medical, doctor says; the message is about bruising and weight gain
US President Donald Trump remains in “excellent health” and is fully capable of performing presidential duties, according to the results of a routine medical examination that the White House released on May 30.
“President Trump remains in excellent health and exhibits strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and general physical function,” White House physician and US Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella said in a medical report.
The evaluation followed a comprehensive medical examination conducted on May 26 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington. Trump underwent a CT scan, heart imaging, cancer screening and other preventive examinations by a team of 22 specialists.
After the examination, Trump said on Truth Social that the inspection went “PERFECTLY.”
The report said the president was “fully qualified to perform all the duties of commander-in-chief and head of state.”
However, the investigation also noted that Trump, 79, now weighs 108 kilograms (238 pounds), an increase of six kilograms since his medical examination in April 2025. Trump is 6 feet 3 inches tall and has a body mass index (BMI) of 29.7, just below the medical cutoff of 30, which is classified as obese. His doctor advised him to lose weight.
The report also addressed recurring public speculation about visible bruising on Trump’s hands, which has been noted during several public appearances.
According to Barbabella, the bruising is consistent with “minor soft tissue irritation associated with frequent handshakes” when aspirin is used for cardiovascular prevention.
“Examination of the dorsal hands revealed ecchymosis (bruising) consistent with minor soft tissue irritation associated with frequent handshake while taking aspirin for cardiovascular prevention,” the doctor wrote.
The report described the bruising as a “common and benign effect of aspirin therapy” and recommended that Trump switch to a low-dose aspirin regimen.
Trump is currently on three medications, including two cholesterol-lowering drugs and aspirin for heart prevention.
The doctor also noted slight swelling in Trump’s lower legs, but said the condition had improved compared to the previous year. No abnormalities were found in his cardiac, pulmonary, or neurological examinations.
The medical was Trump’s third since returning to office last year and came amid public scrutiny over his health after repeated pictures of bruised hands and questions raised about his sobriety during some public appearances.
