A fire broke out in a multi-storey building in Noida village on Wednesday (July 15, 2026), killing two people, police said.
The fire was later brought under control and about 50 tenants who lived in a building in Mamura village in Sector 66 were safely evacuated, officials said.
Police said two residents — a man and a woman — who were taken to the hospital were pronounced dead by doctors.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police Rajiv Mishra, the building, with four rooms on each floor, had about 10 to 12 rooms that were being used as residential apartments.
The owner of the apartment was arrested.
The fire was apparently caused by an electric two-wheeler being charged inside the building. Mr. Mishra said it spread to nearby petrol two-wheelers parked on the premises.
As soon as the fire was reported, seven fire engines and a hydraulic platform were immediately dispatched to the scene, and most of the residents were safely evacuated.
“Two persons who already had health problems fell ill after inhaling smoke and were taken to the district hospital by ambulance,” Mr. Mishra told reporters.
An FIR has been registered at the Phase 3 police station against the building owner (tenant) under the relevant provisions of the Act.
