No NDA change: NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule clears air on unity of INDIA bloc, Delimitation Act | Today’s news
NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule on Wednesday dismissed speculation that her party might support the Centre’s delimitation bill, saying she had neither discussed the legislation with anyone nor been approached for support.
Speaking to the media, Sule said that the NCP (SP) will decide its stand only after the bill is introduced in Parliament and after further consultations within the INDIA bloc. “However, we will discuss in detail every proposed bill within the INDIA alliance. Parties like DMK, SP and ourselves have said that we will consider the issue of 50% quota,” she said.
He further points out that the opposition never demanded delimitation and instead focused more on implementing the 33% reservation for women in Parliament, stating, “The INDIA alliance did not demand delimitation; we demand that 33% reservation for women be implemented. During the previous budget session, Kiren Rijiju invited Asaduddin Owaisi, me and Arvind.”
She also reaffirmed her party’s commitment to the INDIA alliance and refuted any rumors of a switch to the BJP-led NDA. “There are several rumors about us. All information is coming from the source. Our party is being maligned. There is no doubt that we will go somewhere. We are in the INDIA alliance.”
Her comments came a day after leaders from both sides of the Nationalist Congress Party met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, with sources telling PTI that Jayant Patil met him at his ‘Varsha’ residence in Mumbai late on Tuesday over an issue in his Uran-Ishwarpur constituency in Sangli district. Sources also said that Patil and ruling NCP leaders Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare met the chief minister separately, drawing more attention after a potential tie-up between the two parties regained traction.
Several members of the NCP (SP) said that Ajit Pawar had started talks with senior leader Jayant Patil about a possible merger before his plane crash. However, NCP leaders, including Tatkare and national president Praful Patel, refuted these claims.
