Two law students arrested after disruption of Supreme Court | Today’s news

Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested two law students from Lucknow University in connection with a hearing at the Supreme Court on July 10 in which one of the accused allegedly hurled abuse at a judge and disrupted courtroom proceedings. LiveLaw.

The accused have been identified as 24-year-old Prabal Pratap Singh and 23-year-old Chander Bhan, who are the third and sophomores. law students at Lucknow University, respectively

According to a police statement, an FIR has been registered at the Tilak Marg police station based on a complaint lodged by him Supreme Court security personnel over the incident that occurred on July 10 before a bench comprising Justices KV Viswanathan and Alok Aradhe.

As he states NDTVthe accused were medically examined at the Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) after the incident and were declared sane. The police also seized several leaflets containing objectionable language from their possession. A Delhi court has since remanded both the accused in police custody for two days.

During the hearing, Pratap, appearing as a personal petitioner, allegedly disrupted court proceedings by using abusive language and throwing documents related to the case into the courtroom. He was also accused of obstructing court staff in the performance of their official duties when they attempted to restrain him.

Pratap approached the Supreme Court challenging the April 2026 judgment Allahabad High Court. At the beginning of the meeting, instead of a legal submission, he approached Lavica in an unusual way.

According to court records, he said “Mr Judicial Officer, I direct you to order the registration of an FIR against the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lucknow.

Justice Viswanathan replied, “Ordering me? Commanding us?” Pratap then replied: “That’s all from me. Everything is recorded.”

The hearing soon descended into chaos. Pratap allegedly threw case papers in the air, shouted obscenities in a public square and even verbally abused the Chief Justice of India as he was escorted by security personnel.

However, in the merits of the petition, the Supreme Court found no reason to interfere with the decision of the Allahabad High Court.

Notably, in its order dated July 10, the Bench said it did not wish to initiate any action against Pratap.
