Final year B.Tech student ends life in Hyderabad, family cites exam stress

A 21-year-old final year B.Tech student was found dead at his residence in Suchitra after allegedly battling depression for fear of failing two subjects in the semester exams.

The deceased was identified as Rahul, who was staying in a flat at Godavari Homes, Suchitra, while pursuing an engineering degree at a college in Madhapur.

According to the Petbasheerabad police, on the evening of July 13, Rahul stayed home to study while his mother and sister went to the temple. When they returned at around 9.55pm and got no answer after knocking on the door, they broke it open with the help of neighbors and found him hanging from a ceiling fan.

The family, with the help of neighbors, rushed Rahul to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

In their statement to the police, the family said Rahul was depressed due to the fear of failing two subjects in his recent semester exams and believed that this had prompted him to take the extreme step.

The Petbasheerabad police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to his death.
