The budget meeting of Thanjavur Corporation suddenly ended with the mayor of S. Ramanathan, who ran in Huff after his own party accused him of “corrupt practices”.
The budget meeting launched the Chairman of the Committee for the accounts of the Mayor of Venkatesan to submit the budget. While Mr. Venkatesan represented the budget, the opposition councilors stood up and raised the slogans condemning the civic body for the alleged inefficiency in the implementation of basic services to residents, although the civic body managed to introduce the “excess” budget for the second year.
When the elected members were entitled to discuss the mayor’s budget, part of the council of the birds of prey Munnetr Kazhagam (DMK) began to blame Commissioner G. Kannan and other lethargic officials of their duties.
The mayor attacked at this point and called on the Commissioner and other officials to look at the problems of the Council without failure and provide solutions first.
Meanwhile, manicandan (AIADMK) wanted to add to the problems that the DMK councilors raised. The mayor, however, refused to allow him to speak because his councilors (councilors DMK) broadcast problems that ordinary people face.
With the view of the mayor’s intervention, Mr. Manicandan raised a legal point on the behavior of the “urgent council meeting” on Friday. He listened to the last minute meeting and was looking for an explanation of the Commissioner about subjects that could be part of a “urgent meeting” according to the rules of the civic body. He demanded that objects included in the “urgent meeting” agenda be discussed by the Council later.
The mayor ended this discussion by saying that the Council was unable to act at the desire of the opposition party’s advice.
Subsequently, DMK councilors, such as Neelakandan, Anand, and others, took the release of the “Congress Hall”, where they accused the mayor of “acceptance of bribes” to allow the cinema meeting hall to be converted into a secret agreement with the Commissioner and other officials.
The practically poisoned mayor suddenly announced that all resolutions placed in front of the Council at today’s meeting were approved “unanimously” and left the hall in Huff by asking the staff to immediately turn off the lights and fans, which was immediately met by the civic body.
