This will be the first physical post-pandemic summite leader Bimstec and also the first physical summit of the group from 1 February 2021 of the Myanmar military coup, which has since pushed Myanmar into the internal conflict.
After visiting Bangkok PM Modi, he travels to Sri Lanka for a state visit during the 4th-6-6. April.
Next week, Mr. Modi will start a two-line tour of Thailand and Sri Lanka with a wide focus on strengthening regional cooperation in the newly announced India “Mahasagar Policy” and a vision of a stable and prosperous indo-pacific.
In the first stage of the tour, Mr. Modi will visit from 3 to 4 April to participate in the sixth summit of Bimstec. It will be the third visit to the Prime Minister in Thailand, said the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) on Friday.
A trip to Sri Lanka PM modi
From Thailand, Mr. Modi will travel to Sri Lanka for a three -day trip to conduct interviews with the best leadership of the island nation.
“A visit to the Prime Minister in Thailand and Sri Lanka and his participation in the 6 Summit will reaffirm India’s commitment to” first neighborhood “,” Act East “,” Mahasagar “vision and vision of indo-pacific,” Mea said.
Mr. Modi announced the vision of “Mahasagar” or “mutual and holistic progress for safety and growth across regions” to involve India with the global south during his recent visit to Mauritius.
In addition to India and Thailand, the Bimstec initiative (Bengal Initiative for multi -world technical and economic cooperation) includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan.
Bimstec leaders will be expected to consider ways and means to fulfill greater dynamics in cooperation between nations members.
“It is also expected that leaders will discuss various measures for building institutions and capacities to expand cooperation within Bimstec,” Mea said in a statement.
India accepts a number of initiatives in Bimstec to strengthen regional cooperation and partnership, including strengthening security, facilitating trade and investment, increasing interconnection and cooperation in food, energy, climate and human security, he said.
Meet the Thai PM
On the bilateral front, Mr. Modi is scheduled for a meeting with the Thai Prime Minister 3. April.
MEA said that both Prime Ministers would be expected to review bilateral cooperation and map the way for future partnerships between countries.
India and Thailand are naval neighbors with shared civilization ties that are supported by cultural, language and religious ties.
From Thailand will go PM Modi 4. April for a three -day state visit to Sri Lanka.
In Colombo, Mr. Modi will have a discussion with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disayak.
Both leaders will review the progress made in the field of cooperation agreed in the common vision of “support for the shared future”, which was accepted during a visit to the President in India at Sri Lankan president, Mea said.
Mr Modi will also have meetings with higher dignitaries and political leaders in Colombo.
“As part of the visit, the Prime Minister will also travel to Anuradhapura for the inauguration of development projects introduced with Indian financial assistance,” Mea said.
