Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy asked Members of Parliament to put the state’s interest at the top, across party lines, to ensure central approval for key infrastructure, irrigation and transport projects vital to the state’s development.
Addressing MPs after a powerpoint presentation on issues discussed with the Center ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, the chief minister said he would go to any length in the interest of the state and all MPs from the state should have a similar view.
To strengthen coordination with MPs, the Chief Minister announced the appointment of IAS officer Advait Kumar Singh at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi to provide prompt information. While BJP MPs attended the meeting, BRS MPs skipped it.
About Hyderabad Metro Rail, the MP informed about the discussions with the Center on the first and second phases of the metro. He said the Center had agreed to appoint SBI CAPS as a consultant for the phase-I takeover process and appealed to BJP MPs Eatala Rajender and Konda Vishweshwar Reddy to help expedite the process.
The Chief Minister said he plans to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the Tummidihatti project.
Mr. Reddy said that nearly 95% of the land acquisition for the northern part of the regional circle (RRR) has been completed, while the southern part is awaiting the approval of the Union Cabinet for land acquisition.
On the Musi river rejuvenation project, he said the first phase had reached the tender stage and asked the MPs for support in securing a letter of approval from the Center under the Urban Challenge Fund.
Mr. Revanth Reddy also briefed the MPs about the recent discussions chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil and involving the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on inter-state river issues. He said Telangana was entitled to 15.09 tmc ft of water from the Tungabhadra project but was getting only about 5 tmc ft due to heavy silt accumulation. He urged the MPs to impress upon the Union Government to facilitate the distillation of the tank.
Similarly, the Center has agreed to persuade Chhattisgarh to facilitate the proposed Godavari-Nagarjunasagar river link. While Chhattisgarh had an allocation of 300 tmc ft in the Godavari basin, significant surplus water remained untapped, offering Telangana access to around 43 tmc ft. He also mentioned about the proposed Godavari-Cauvery river linking project and asked the MPs to ensure that the interests of Telangana are protected.
The acquisition of land for the proposed airports in Adilabad and Warangal has been completed, he said and sought MPs’ support in securing approval. Provision of IIMs for Telangana was also discussed.
During the meeting, the MPs raised several issues. Mr. Eatala Rajender highlighted the inadequate rice milling capacity and storage infrastructure in the state, while Konda MP Vishweshwar Reddy called for an expert committee to study the proposed Kaleshwaram and Palamuru-Rangareddy irrigation projects. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and senior officials were present.
