Irregularities in PSC examination in Kerala: Criminal police team visited PSC headquarters

The investigation into alleged irregularities in various examinations conducted by the Public Service Commission of Kerala (PSC) entered a crucial phase when a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Inspector General Crime Branch S. Ajeetha Begum visited the PSC headquarters on Monday (July 13, 2026).

A three-member team reached the PSC headquarters in the state capital after recording the statements of several complainants. The team is believed to have gathered preliminary information related to suspected malpractice in the investigation process.

Earlier in the day, the investigators recorded the detailed statements of the complainants K Shyam Krishnan and JS Jayalal, who were ranked third and fifth in the recruitment process for Chief (Industry and Infrastructure) in the State Planning Board. Their statements reportedly lasted almost five hours. Both candidates alleged serious irregularities in the recruitment process and alleged that the final list was rigged.

According to the complainants, the alleged malpractice related to incorrect evaluation of answer scripts, with a number of questions allegedly left ungraded. This anomaly resulted in deserving candidates being unfairly excluded while some others were allegedly pushed forward in the rank list. The complaints prompted the PSC to freeze the disputed rank list.

The Crime Branch team is probing the allegations to determine whether there was deliberate manipulation in the recruitment process. Investigators will verify the complainants’ claims by corroborating their statements with official records and evidentiary documents. The team is expected to formally request additional documents from the PSC to step up its investigation.

The SIT will formally register the First Information Reports after examining the complaints and the evidence it collects during the investigation.
