Alleging forced land acquisition in Amaravati, CPM demands justice for Undavalli farmers
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday (July 13, 2026) accused the state government and the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) of forcibly acquiring agricultural land in Undavalli village for the Seed Axis Road project, alleging a violation of due process and assurances given to farmers.
The CPM delegation led by a member of the State Secretariat Ch. Babu Rao visited the affected areas, interacted with farmers and later addressed a press conference. Mr. Babu Rao alleged that authorities used bulldozers and police to seize land despite ongoing court cases, destroyed standing crops and used force against protesting women.
He said the farmers were not against the Seed Axis Road but were protesting the acquisition of additional agricultural land beyond what was originally agreed upon. The CPM leader also questioned the compensation offered, saying it was well below the prevailing market rates. The party accused the coalition government of abandoning its former pro-farm stand and favoring the interests of suppliers and investors.
The CPM leader demanded an immediate halt to the acquisition, market value compensation, payment for crop losses, action against the officials for alleged excesses and discussions with the affected farmers. According to a press release, the agitation will continue until the farmers’ demands are resolved.
