Ex-minister claims voter details missing; officials insist the roles are intact
Former minister Sanakkayala Aruna on Monday (July 13, 2026) claimed that she was unable to locate her voter verification details for the ongoing Special Intensive Review (SIR) of the electoral roll process. She questioned the effectiveness of the exercise, which ends on July 14.
After submitting a statement to District Collector M. Sai Kanth Varma, Ms. Aruna said she did not receive a satisfactory response from the election monitoring staff when she sought an explanation. “If the former minister is unable to secure her own vote, what about ordinary voters?” she asked, urging the district administration to look into the matter and ensure that eligible voters do not face any inconvenience. She said she has been casting her vote for the past forty years and demanded to have her rights.
Meanwhile, election authorities denied reports that her vote was missing. Guntur Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for Guntur East Assembly Constituency K. Mayur Ashok clarified that Ms. Aruna’s name continues to appear in the electoral roll of Kothapet under Part No. 109 at serial number 474. He said that her EPIC details remain valid and the process has already been renumbered.
The ERO also appealed to the public not to be misled by reports circulating on social media and reiterated that the name of any eligible voter will not be deleted from the voter rolls. He advised voters who have doubts about their enrollment or the SIR process to approach the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO), Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) or the Election Wing of the Guntur Municipal Corporation for clarification.
