Gujarat is preparing to ensure approximately 650 hectares near the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad to support the Indian offer for the Summer Olympic Games 2036. This expansive project includes the acquisition of Asaram Bapu, convicted criminal, along with other properties such as Bhartiya Seva Samai and Sadashiv pragya pragya pragya Mandal Ashrams. The aim is to develop Sardar Patel Sports Enclave, the Olympic village and other sports facilities and strengthen the case of Ahmedabad to host a prestigious international event.
Asaram Bapu, once a self -proclaimed spiritual leader with a large network of more than 400 ashrams, lost his position after several criminal beliefs. In 2018 he was sentenced to life in prison for rape of a minor in Ashram Jodhpur. Five years later, in 2023, he received another life sentence for the sexual assault of a female follower on his motor Ashram in Ahmedabad. At the beginning of 2024, the authorities issued a notice to 142 entities, including Asaram’s asaram, for the illegal occupation of government land awarded at £500 crore in the area.
The supervision of this important acquisition of land is the committee of three people named by the main Minister Gujarat Bhupendra Patel, who consists of the Municipal Commissioner Ahmedabad, the district collector and head of Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda). The proposed plan assigns 280 acres for sports enclave, 240 acres for the Olympic village in the regions of Bhat and Sughad and 50 acres along the Sabarmati waterfront. The land of the Karai Police Academy is also reviewed for integration. Auda officials report that the boundaries of the web are set and the affected ashrams will be moved with the possibilities of alternative land or financial compensation.
