Andhra Pradesh BJP president PVN Madhav has called on the state government to immediately correct the Aadhaar-linked electricity service connection errors, saying thousands of eligible beneficiaries are being denied welfare benefits, pensions and subsidized electricity due to administrative lapses.

In a statement issued on Monday, Mr. Madhav said the issue had emerged as a major grievance during the BJP’s ‘Janata Varadhi’ programme. He alleged that multiple power grid connections were attached to one Aadhaar number due to technical and administrative errors, resulting in genuine beneficiaries losing access to government benefits. He also claimed that several consumers found electricity service connections and accounts belonging to unrelated persons linked to their Aadhaar numbers.

Criticizing the authorities for asking affected consumers to provide Aadhaar details of other electricity consumers, Mr. Madhav said the onus was on the government to rectify the mistakes.

He said the problem affects aqua farmers, barbers, goldsmiths, carpenters and economically weaker families belonging to BC, SC and ST communities. He also attributed the delay in resolving complaints to a lack of staff at the Electrical Revenue Offices (ERO).

Mr. Madhav called for a nationwide audit of Aadhaar-electricity linkage records, special efforts to identify and correct irregularities, appointment of district-level nodal officers, filling of vacancies in the ERO and introduction of a digital verification system to prevent such errors. He called on the government to ensure that no eligible citizen is deprived of social benefits due to administrative errors.
