Koyilandy Government Taluk Hospital to be upgraded as district hospital, says minister
Construction of a new building at the Taluk Government Hospital in Koyilandy will be completed within a year and the hospital will be upgraded to a district hospital immediately after the completion of the project, Health Minister K. Muralidharan said.
The minister made the announcement at a review meeting attended by elected representatives and members of the Hospital Development Committee during his visit to the hospital on Monday (July 13).
Mr. Muralidharan said District Collector MS Madhavikutty has been asked to allocate 10 cents of adjoining land for the revenue authorities to provide temporary facilities, including a mortuary, till the new building is completed.
“A blood bank will be set up in the hospital soon. The four vacant posts of doctors in the emergency department will be filled immediately, while the posts of assistant surgeon, radiologist, anesthetist and assistant consultant (surgeon) will also be appointed,” he said.
The minister said the government is committed to addressing the deficiencies in government hospitals and ensuring that patients do not have to lie on the floor under any circumstances. He added that the physical infrastructure of government hospitals across the state would be upgraded by utilizing corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds from public sector undertakings.
