Severe heat forecast for several districts of Telangana

The India Meteorological Department forecast at 1pm on Friday warned of severe heatwaves in isolated pockets in Karimnagar, Peddapalli and Khammam today (May 22, 2026) with day temperatures likely to exceed 45°C. The five-day bulletin has warned of severe heat conditions in multiple districts of Telangana with temperatures exceeding 45°C in several areas.
Heatwave conditions are spread over a wide belt including Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Janganda. Warm night conditions are forecast at Bhadradri Kothagudem, Hanumakonda, Rangareddy, Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri.
However, Hyderabad is expected to remain in the range of 41-44°C during the five-day forecast period.
Districts like Suryapet, Karimnagar, Khammam, Jayashankar-Bhupalapally, Hanumakonda and Bhadradri Kothagudem are expected to cross the 44°C mark on most days. The forecast temperature maps are orange and red as most of Telangana falls under ‘be prepared’ (41-44°C) or extreme ‘warning’ (≥45°C) categories for days 1 and 2 with slight improvement from day 3 onwards.

Thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are forecast on May 22 and 23 in Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal districts.
Dry weather is expected to prevail across the state from May 24, with heat wave warnings gradually easing. Residents of the affected areas were advised by the IMD to limit outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours and stay hydrated.
