Sharmila slaps Modi for gifting Melody toffee to Italian PM Meloni

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila on Thursday (May 21, 2026) criticized what she called the “insane and insensitive showmanship” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifting Melody caramels to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

In a statement, she said, “The height of shamelessness! BJP leaders are distributing Melody chocolates while common people across the country continue to suffer from rising prices of petrol, cooking gas and essential commodities.” She added: “Unemployment and shortages gripped the nation and severely affected the poor, lower and middle classes.”

“Perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise,” she said, adding that Mr. Modi himself was busy enjoying and handing out chocolate bars. “What else can be expected from party leaders? After all, they are nothing but AndhBhakts,” she said.
