At the Gandhi Center on campus Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya College in Visakhapatnam on Sunday hosted a discussion on world peace organized by the BV Foundation for Peace and Harmony, an affiliate body of the International Association for Religious Freedom (IARF).
Presided over by IARF Chairman Narava Prakasa Rao, the meeting began with participants paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. In his speech, Mr. Prakasa Rao emphasized the need for dialogue and highlighted the role of IARF in promoting peace and its consultative engagement with the United Nations.
Former Vice-Chancellor of Nagarjuna University V. Balamohan Das has expressed concern over growing global conflicts and warned against a growing culture of hate. He called on governments to launch programs to promote peace. Former Krishna University Vice-Chancellor S. Ramakrishna Rao said violence can never be justified and called on governments, scientists and citizens to work together for peace. Former Andhra University professor K. Ravi and Concerned India Trust Trustee PK Jose also addressed the rally.
The participants decided to work to promote peace and announced plans to organize a peace walk along the beach in the near future.
