In a new order, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions said that all central government administrative offices in Delhi will remain closed on May 28 on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, also known as Eid ul-Zuha or Bakrid. “Central Government Administrative Offices in Delhi/New Delhi will remain closed on 28 May 2026 on account of Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) (instead of 27 May 2026),” the Ministry of Personnel said in a statement.

The revised notification applies to all administrative offices of the central government operating in the state capital. The decision comes just days after the Center initially declared May 27 as Eid-ul-Azha in its annual holiday calendar.

On this day, most public offices, educational institutions and banks are also expected to remain closed for the festival.

Banks closed

Banks in most states are expected to remain closed for the festival on May 28, although some regions may celebrate the holiday on a different date depending on local customs and moon sightings.

RBI holiday calendar has scheduled Bakrid holidays on different dates in different parts of the country. Banks including SBI branches are likely to remain closed on May 28 in most states.

For offices outside Delhi, Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committees in state capitals may change their festival holiday dates based on the decision of state governments or union territories.

Delhi Government issues Eid-ul-Azha guidelines

Meanwhile, the Delhi government has issued strict guidelines for maintaining law and order, cleanliness and following rules related to animal sacrifices across the national capital during the Eid-ul-Azha celebrations.

Delhi Chief Minister Kapil Mishra on Friday warned that strict punitive action would be taken against anyone who violates regulations related to slaughter of prohibited animals or improper disposal of animal waste during the festival.

The Delhi government’s development department has also circulated detailed instructions directing authorities to keep a close eye on illegal animal sacrifices and ensure proper hygiene in public spaces during the celebrations.
