The Kerala Health Minister released a report on the work done in the last 50 days

Health Minister K. Muraleedharan said efforts to systematically improve the health system will continue and that he is not one to leave things in the middle.

Reporting on the systematic work he has done in the last 50 days in the Health Ministry at the function on Saturday, Mr. Muraleedharan said that he will continue the good work and that no one should think that he will give up after a while.

The minister said that the work that still needed to be done was at least 10 times more. Apart from the budgetary allocation, he said, the government would use the CSR funds to develop infrastructure in public hospitals.

Mr. Muraleedharan said that the government’s decision to examine the procurement done by the health department in the last 10 years was not political and that the sole intention of such an exercise was to ensure that public money was not wasted.

He said all vacancies in the department will be reported to the Public Service Commission (PSC) without delay and no temporary appointments will be encouraged until the PSC rank lists are available. The government has identified more sites for setting up AIIMS and submitted a list to the Center so that Kerala does not lose AIIMS to regional interests, the minister said.

The government would send specialist doctors only to health facilities where specialist departments are available. The KSEB land at Mananthavady would be used for the development of Wayanad Medical College Hospital. He added that a master plan would be prepared to address the problems of infrastructural deficiencies in Kollam Medical College Hospital.

Principal Secretary (Health) Sharmila Mary Joseph presided over the programme. Among those present were Director of State Mission for National Health Mission Anu S. Nair, Director of Medical Education KV Vishwanathan and Director of Health Services V. Meenakshy.
