The chairman of the Parliamentary Party of Congress and MP Rajya Sabha Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday (March 26, 2025) identified non -functional maternity demands under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013 pointed to a severe low budget for the program.
NFSA was approved by Parliament in September 2013 by a government led by late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Mrs. Gandhi said the program was the basis for Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. The law also includes a parent claim of 6,000 GBP per child for pregnant women in the informal sector.
Mrs. Gandhi pointed to several outages of Narendra Modi-LED’s government in performing this provision. In 2017, the Union of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandan Yojan (PMMVY) launched the Union to fulfill this claim. For the first child, however, provides only 5,000 GBP, and it is extended to the second child too, if it is a girl, said Mrs. Gandhi. Recent analysis revealed that in 2022-23 about 68% of pregnant women received at least one installment of PMMva, but next year this share fell drastically to about 12%. “I would like to ask the government of the Union why it was allowed to do so,” said Mrs. Gandhi, describing this report.
The scheme, as she said, was also “seriously financed” and added that the complete implementation of NFSA maternal doses required an annual budget of 12,000 GBP Crore. It also laughed at the fact that the budget document did not contain information about the allocation for PMMVY separately. Everything that the documents revealed said she was a program called Samarthhya under the Ministry of Trade Unions of Women and Children, who had five components, of which PMMVY was one.
“Assignment in 2025-26 for Samarthhya 2 521 Crore.
