Mr. Khalid applied for interim bail to attend his uncle’s posthumous ritual (Chehlum) and take care of his mother, who has to undergo an operation.
The order was passed by a bench of Prathiba M Singh and Madhu Jain after Khalid appealed against the trial court’s May 19 order denying him bail, saying that attending his late uncle’s ceremony was “not so necessary” and that other family members were available to take care of his mother.

Khalid was booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for being one of the “masterminds” of the February 2020 riots that left 53 dead and more than 700 injured.
Violence erupted during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) 2019 and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
