The age profile of Tamil Nadu Cabinets over the last 15 years shows a marked shift in composition — from the senior-heavy 2021 DMK Cabinet to the significantly younger 2026 TVK Cabinet.
TVK ministerial data as of May 21 shows that 51-year-old Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s cabinet has the youngest average age of the three governments surveyed, while MP Stalin’s 2021 cabinet had the oldest.

The average age of ministers in the TVK government in 2026 was 44.6 years, compared to 51.8 years in the 2011 AIADMK cabinet under J. Jayalalithaa and 61.3 years in the 2021 DMK cabinet.
Of the 33 ministers in the TVK cabinet, 22 are under the age of 50. The cabinet featured the youngest minister of all the three governments: S. Kamali, who was inducted to represent the Avinashi constituency at just 28, followed by 29-year-old S. Keerthana from Sivakasi.
Notably, the cabinet has nine ministers in their 30s, followed by a higher tier of seven ministers in their 50s, three in their 60s and only one in their 70-80s – former AIADMK leader KA Sengottaiyan.
The ministers in their 30s are A. Rajmohan from Egmore, R. Vinoth from Kumbakonam, VK Rajeev from Tiruvadanai, M. Vijay Balaji from Erode East, S. Ramesh from Srirangam, K. Thennarasu from Sriperumbudur, J. Mohamed Farvas from K. Kinathukadavu.
Aadhav Arjuna of Villivakkam, KG Arunraj of Tiruchengode, P. Venkataramanan of Mylapore, R. Nirmalkumar of Thirupparankundram, TK Prabhu of Karaikudi, B. Rajkumar of Cuddalore, P. DMK cabinet
In contrast, the DMK cabinet of Mr. Stalin, who represented Kolathur at the age of 68, was heavily dominated by senior leaders in 2021. Of his 34 ministers, 21 were over the age of 60, including 13 ministers over the age of 60, seven over the age of 70, and one over the age of 80. Only three were under 50, including Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi of Thiruverumbur and Senthil Balaji of Karur aged 40, along with a single M. as-purhivent aged M.30si Mathivent in the year holder.
Of all the three cabinets, DMK’s Duraimurugan from Katpadi, who was 83 at the time of induction, was the oldest veteran. A significant portion of the 2021 cabinet sat in senior positions, consisting of 12 ministers in their 60s and 10 ministers in their 50s.
Middle ground
The AIADMK cabinet of 2011 occupied a clear middle ground between the two extremes and was led by Jayalalithaa, who represented Srirangam at the age of 63.
Of the 34 ministers appointed to her cabinet, 15 were aged 50, making her the single largest age group. They included notables like 58-year-old KP Munusamy of Veppanahalli and 56-year-old Edappadi K. Palaniswami of Edappadi.
The rest of the cabinet had 11 ministers in their 40s, six in their 60s and two in their 30s, with none over 70.
Meanwhile, the youngest were two members in their 30s: 37-year-old RB Udhayakumar from Sattur and 36-year-old V. Senthilbalaji from Karur.
