Car driver dies; FIR against moneylenders for harassment
A 52-year-old autorickshaw driver allegedly committed suicide on Friday allegedly due to harassment by a moneylender to repay a loan.
The victim has been identified as G. Yusuf Jamaluddin. The complaint was filed by his son, who said he received video messages from his father at around 3:05 p.m. on July 10 while he was at his workplace in Nagawara.
According to the complaint, in the videos, Jamaluddin alleged that a man identified as Umesh was harassing him for money.
The complainant rushed to Kannur Road and found his father’s autorickshaw parked on Bellahalli-Kannur Road near the flat. Jamaluddin was found unconscious in the driver’s seat. He was initially taken to a nearby private hospital near Bellahalli Brick Factory bus stand, where doctors advised him to be shifted to another hospital. He was then shifted to another hospital in KG Hall where doctors declared him brought dead around 4.30 pm
The son told police he later watched all the videos sent by his father. In one of them, Jamaluddin allegedly said that he had borrowed ₹1.75 lakh and asked for time to repay the amount, but the moneylender refused. In another video, he claimed that Umesh was torturing him and that he couldn’t bear the harassment any more before consuming the poison.
Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against Umesh on the charge of aiding and abetting suicide and started an investigation.
