Home Minister orders monthly meetings of SC/ST police officers

Home Minister Priyank Kharge

Home Minister Priyank Kharge has directed all police units across the state to conduct compulsorily monthly grievance redressal meetings for police officers and personnel belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

The minister said that every second Sunday of the month will continue to be observed as ‘Scheduled Caste and Tribe Day’ during which police departments have to hold hearings to address service-related issues, social issues and other issues faced by SC/ST police personnel.

Mr. Kharge said that instructions have been issued to the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) to ensure strict implementation of the directive.

He noted that the Standing Order has already mandated such meetings across all Commissionerates of Police, District Police Offices, Armed Reserve Forces, Special Police Forces and other police agencies in the state.

However, the government has received reports that these meetings are not held regularly in several places.

He ordered that all petitions, complaints and actions taken based on them must be properly documented at each hearing. Matters that can be resolved immediately should be dealt with on the spot, while matters requiring government approval or policy-level decisions should be referred to the relevant authorities without delay.
