Indian-origin ex-Google engineer Sheetal Wrzesien shot dead in US; husband arrested | Today’s news

A former Indian-origin engineering manager at Google has been shot and her son seriously injured after a domestic dispute at their home in Cobb County, Georgia. The shooting happened Tuesday night at the couple’s Cobb County residence, according to Fox News. The husband was arrested and charged with felony murder.

The victim, 57 years old Leaf Septemberwas a senior engineering manager at Google with over two decades of experience in the global technology sector. According to News18, police responded to reports of a shooting at a family residence on Laurel Creek Trail near Smyrna shortly before 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Paramedics found the couple’s 23-year-old son, Jason Wrzesien, with critical gunshot wounds outside the home. Inside the residence, officers discovered Sheetal Wrzesien, who was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple ballistic injuries, the report said.

American police arrested Sheetal Wrzesien’s husband, Kirk B. Wrzesien, 56at residence without incident. He is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

“I saw him doing yard work. Really nice guy. Very social neighbor,” neighbor Peter Lee told Atlanta News First. “It’s a terrible tragedy,” he added.

The husband faces several criminal charges

The Cobb County Police Department said the shooting stemmed from an escalating domestic confrontation at the home, News18 reported.

According to court documents, Kirk Wrzesien faces five charges, including one count of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon related to the attacks on his wife and son, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Jason Wrzesien was reportedly taken to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. His current medical condition has not been publicly updated by health authorities.

Sheetal spent her early years in England, India and Ghana before settling in the United States where she became a respected figure in the Atlanta tech community.

US authorities confirmed that the investigation remained focused on what they described as a domestic incident within the family. No additional suspects are being sought while investigators continue to look into the circumstances of the fatal shooting.
