The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Friday (July 10, 2026) reiterated its demand for a judicial inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of donations collected at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Center of being silent on the matter and demanding accountability from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a press conference here ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament scheduled to begin on July 20, CPI general secretary D. Raja said the Union government had “betrayed the trust of the people” and said resignation alone was not enough.

“Actually, the Trust has been maligned. The Trust has betrayed people’s trust. The Trust has become untrustworthy. Mr. Modi is silent. He has not spoken a word so far. Amit Shah (Union Home Minister) has also not commented on the issue,” he said.

Contrasted with Prime Minister Modi’s remarks during the 2024 Odisha Assembly election campaign regarding the alleged theft from the Ratna Bhandar in the Jagannath Temple, Mr. Raja asked why the Prime Minister was silent now.

“From the very beginning, our party has demanded a high-level judicial investigation. The investigation must be completely transparent and no one should go unpunished. Resignations are not the answer,” he said.

The CPI leader also announced a nationwide campaign during which the party would organize padyatras and other awareness programs across states to highlight what it described as the Modi government’s failure to address livelihood issues, unemployment, rural woes and concerns of workers, farmers, youth, students and women.

According to him, the campaign will culminate with a rally in Delhi on September 1.
