Former DGP Vaikunth no more

Former Director General of Police V. Vaikunth died here on Friday. He was 89.

In a career spanning over 35 years, Vaikunth has served the Tamil Nadu Police in various capacities. He served as the DGP of Tamil Nadu in 1995. He was a recipient of the Presidential Police Medal for Meritorious and Distinguished Service.

Vaikunth is the author of ‘An Eye to Indian Policing — Challenge & Response’, published in both English and Tamil. After retirement, he devoted himself to social and community service, focusing more on rehabilitation programs for female prisoners and juvenile delinquents.

He was a graduate of PS High School, Vivekananda College and Madras University.
