Government of Bihar. fire more than 3,000 school teachers for using fake degrees and forged documents to secure jobs
Following an investigation by Bihar’s Vigilance Bureau into the recruitment of school teachers between 2006 and 2015, the state government on Friday (July 10, 2026) said it would sack more than 3,000 teachers who used fake degrees and forged certificates to secure jobs. In addition, the government would also initiate criminal prosecution and recover the salaries paid to them during their service.
“The Bihar government will dismiss more than 3,000 school teachers accused of securing jobs using fake degrees and forged educational documents between 2006 and 2015,” Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwary announced while talking to media persons in Patna on Friday.
Based on the findings of the Vigilance probe, several FIRs were also registered against the accused teachers. The investigation reportedly uncovered large-scale irregularities, including the use of fake degrees from bogus educational institutions and forged educational documents to secure their employment.
“The department has been directed to take stern action against all those caught in fraudulent activities to secure their jobs as school teachers and the decision was taken based on a detailed investigation into the recruitment of teachers conducted between 2006 and 2015,” the education minister said. He reiterated that the inquiry was earlier ordered by the then Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and as both the central and state governments today follow a “zero tolerance” policy towards corruption, those indulging in fraudulent activities will not be spared.
“The state government would not only dismiss the accused teachers but also initiate disciplinary proceedings against them,” the minister added. He further stated that “salaries and honorariums paid to them during their tenure will also be refunded along with applicable interest”.
Meanwhile, Education Ministry officials claimed that the Vigilance investigation also found that some teachers had already resigned before disciplinary proceedings could be initiated against them. But they, too, would face “union action,” officials said. “No one involved in fraudulent activities will be spared,” they said.
Meanwhile, leaders of the NDA’s five ruling coalition partners in the state – BJP, JD(U), LJP (RV), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha – are meeting in Patna, for the first time since the formation of the BJP-led government in the state, to have “official coordination by Chief Minister Samratbe Choudhary” between them. “to review the activities of the government in the social field”.
All district chairmen of these parties were invited to attend. “Such meetings strengthen unity among NDA allies,” JD(U) spokesperson and leader Neeraj Kumar said.
