A fire in a city hotel caused panic on Friday night

A fire broke out at the Highland Hotel in Thampanoor, prompting the quick evacuation of hotel guests on Friday evening. According to the Fire Rescue Department, no casualties were reported in the incident.

The fire started in the chimney of the hotel’s kitchen and smoke filled the ground and first floors, firefighters said. The fire and rescue unit at nearby Chenkalchoola received an alarm at around 5.15 pm after which four fire tenders were dispatched to the hotel, located on Manjalikulam Road.

The fire was extinguished by 6.30 pm, according to HZS, Chenkalchoola unit. The fire and rescue personnel were led by District Fire Officer Sooraj, Station Officer Aneesh Kumar and Senior Fire and Rescue Officer Jithesh Babu.
