The Mysuru unit of the All India Democratic Youth Organization (AIDYO) and the Public Library Readers’ Forum urged TS Srivatsava, Krishnaraja MLA, to take necessary steps to keep the Kuvempunagar Public Library open on holidays.
AIDYO and Public Library Patrons’ Forum in their memorandum submitted to the MLA on Thursday also highlighted the need to provide basic infrastructure to the library.
“Hundreds of people, including students and senior citizens, visit the library every day. Among them are a large number of job seekers. Due to multiple holidays such as Mondays, second Tuesdays, fourth Saturdays and public holidays, public libraries often remain closed,” the memo said.
“As a result, job seekers are forced to spend thousands of rupees every month to study in private libraries. This becomes a financial burden for job-seeking students. Therefore, it would be very helpful to keep public libraries open even during holidays,” the memo said.
Although drinking water facilities are now arranged at the Kuvempunagar Public Library as requested earlier, the memorandum said that old tables and chairs which are difficult to use should be replaced and toilets should be cleaned regularly.
The surroundings should be kept free of invasive plants and bushes. In addition, stone benches for sitting and eating should be arranged outside, the memorandum states.
