Lord’s set for the first women’s test match as England host India in a historic clash

One hundred and forty-two years after it hosted its first men’s Test, Lord’s Cricket Ground will finally welcome women’s Test cricket on Friday when England take on India in a historic four-day encounter. The landmark comes more than 50 years after Lord’s hosted its first women’s international when England beat Australia by eight wickets in an ODI on August 4, 1976.The opening women’s Test at Lord’s is expected to be played in front of one of the biggest crowds in the history of the format. “More than 30,000 tickets have already been collected over the four days of the historic Rothesay Women’s Test England v India, making it one of the best-attended Women’s Tests ever,” Lord’s said in a press release. “It just boggles my mind that this is the first women’s Test here at Lord’s,” India coach Amol Muzumdar said on Wednesday.Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur echoed these sentiments and described the event as a dream come true.
