Coco Gauff hits back at haters after leaving Wimbledon: She’ll mark them when I win

Coco Gauff has hit back at the criticism she received following her Wimbledon exit, insisting the negativity from online trolls and angry punters only motivates her to come back stronger.

The American star suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the Wimbledon semi-finals, she lost to Karolína Muchová in a dramatic three-set battle. Gauff had a match point in the deciding tie-break but was unable to convert as Much prevailed 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (12-10) to reach the final.

Despite the disappointment, Gauff remained composed and focused on learning from the setback. The 22-year-old revealed she had already faced backlash after the loss, with some punters directing their frustration at her after losing their bets.

“I’ve gotten some hateful comments and messages already, but that’s OK. It just makes you stronger. It’s the usual stuff from angry punters. But whatever, next time I’m going to come out on the winning side and I’ll be sure to tag them,” Gauff said in her post-match press conference.

GAUFF FOCUSED ON POSITIVES AFTER WIMBLEDON LOSS

The defeat was a heavy blow for Gauff, who entered Wimbledon full of confidence after an impressive run to the semi-finals. She showed resilience throughout the tournament, recovering from difficult situations before finally not having enough against Muchová in a thrilling match.

However, the American refused to consider the result a failure. Gauff admitted the loss in such a close match was painful, but insisted the experience will help her develop as a player.

“You know, whether you hate me or love me, you can’t deny the progress that has been made during this tournament. There are a lot of positives that excite me about the future,” Gauff said.

The Wimbledon failure came after a pivotal period in Gauff’s career. The American has already won two Grand Slam singles titles, including the 2023 US Open and the 2025 French Open, establishing herself as one of the leading players of her generation.

“MUCHOVA DESERVES MORE SUCCESS”

Even after the disappointment at Wimbledon, she praised Muchová’s performance and acknowledged that the journey to becoming a better player also includes difficult moments.

“She’s someone who deserves more success because of how talented she is. The head-to-head record went my way, but she’s not an opponent you want to face at any stage of the tournament. I have a lot of respect for the way she plays and the person she is off the court,” Gauff added.

With the hard court season ahead, Gauff will now focus on rebounding and preparing for the challenges ahead. And judging by her message to critics, the American star is determined to let her performances do the talking.
