Four alleged gunmen were killed and one injured in a police encounter in the upscale Sushant Lok Phase-2 in Gurugram on Thursday (July 9, 2026) evening after they opened fire at the house of a prominent businessman.

According to the police, the detective received information about armed men roaming in a black sport utility vehicle in the evening via dispatch. While searching the Sushant Lok Phase-2 area, the police found that the businessman had been receiving repeated threats and blackmail from a foreign-based gangster.

“When the police reached the spot, the accused started firing at the businessman’s house with sophisticated weapons,” Sadar Deputy Commissioner of Police Dharambir Singh told reporters at the scene. “When challenged, they also fired at the police. In self-defense, the police retaliated.”

All five shooters were hit during the firefight. They were taken to hospital where four were pronounced dead. One is being treated.

Three police officers were also injured in the clash and are receiving medical attention.

Police said the businessman’s home was the target of the shooting. The identity of the dead shooters and details of the extortion amount have not yet been confirmed. The role of the specific gang is also under investigation.

Yellow crime scene tape was put up at the scene, which a senior police officer briefed the media on late at night.

Further investigations are underway to establish gang links and the motive behind the attack.
