CPI demands social audit of functioning of Kochi Corpn
CPI District Secretary N. Arun demanded a social audit of the management of the Kochi Corporation.
He was speaking after launching a protest outside the corporation’s office, calling for immediate action against the spread of epidemics caused by overpopulation of mosquitoes. He alleged that the pre-monsoon works undertaken by the Corporation were ineffective. The post of Deputy Collector and Chairman of the Standing Finance Committee, which should manage these activities, remained vacant for months.
Mr. Arun further alleged that there was intense fighting within the ruling UDF. “A deputy mayor should be appointed, at least on daily wages,” he remarked sarcastically. “The mayor can face legal action at any time. Waterlogging and lack of drinking water is rampant in the city,” he said. Mr. Arun also charged that all the developmental achievements of the previous LDF council were wasted.
