The DK Shivakumar-led Congress government plans to set up 2,000 Karnataka public schools across the state, with each school serving three gram panchayats.

Around 800 such schools will be built in the first phase at a cost of around ₹10 to ₹15 crore each.

Eventually, the state will have around 2,000 such schools. “We plan to use CSR funds to build these schools and provide infrastructure and technical equipment,” Chief Minister DK Shivakumar told officers at a Belagavi division-level review meeting at Suvarna Soudha on Thursday.

He asked the officers to make all preparations, including finding ways to fund the CSR.

“The state government will ask major educational institutions in all districts to adopt at least three government schools. Our aim is to provide quality education to all,” the chief minister said.
