Minister calls for comprehensive planning in villages

The state government on Wednesday started a three-day training program on preparation of Gram Panchayat Sustainable Development Action Plan (GP SAP) in which representatives of 1,478 Gram Panchayats across 72 mandals participated on the first day.

Sarpanches, Panchayat Secretaries, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department officials and technical staff attended the training sessions conducted under the supervision of other District Collectors (Local Bodies) in the respective districts.

Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka launched the training program at Mahabubabad district headquarters.

Addressing the participants, Ms. Seethakka said that comprehensive plans for village development should look beyond construction activities and consider the needs of villagers, future requirements, conservation of natural resources, employment generation, infrastructure development, women empowerment and social progress. She encouraged participants to prepare development plans after identifying local priorities, assessing funding requirements and incorporating people’s views.

She urged the sarpanches and officials to apply the lessons learned during the training at the local level and stressed the need for transparent governance to maintain public trust. The minister said village development should be seen as a collective movement involving both the government and the people. MP P. Balram Naik, PR & RD Commissioner Divya Devarajan and others were present.
