Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will address the Mega Parent Teacher Meeting (Mega PTM) to be held simultaneously in all government schools across the state and have direct interaction with students and parents through video conferencing on June 1, when government schools will reopen, Education Minister S. Madhu Bangarappa said.
“The Chief Minister will welcome the students to the schools on June 1. All the schools should hold the grand opening of the schools as a festival,” he told principals, teachers and top officials of the department through video conference on Saturday.
Mr. Siddaramaiah will also lay the foundation stone for the construction of a new Karnataka Public School (KPS) building at Shivamogga, the minister said, adding that it is everyone’s responsibility to provide clear information to the public and parents about the purpose, quality and facilities available in KPS schools.
The minister also said that the top priority should be to increase the number of students enrolled in government schools to the maximum level. Students who failed should be identified, cautioned and brought back to school, he said.
Mr. Bangarappa directed that the mid-day meal must be implemented effectively from day one and all necessary materials, including textbooks and uniforms, should be distributed to students well in advance of the school year. Officials should visit schools regularly to ensure quality teaching and attendance of teachers, he ordered.
The minister also appreciated the efforts of teachers and officials for the historic results recorded in the recent SSLC and II PU examinations. He said the ministry’s 29-point circular, including question banks, prelims with state-level prepared questions, contributed to this success.
