The Kerala High Court has ruled that the body of a woman, which was handed over to the Kalamassery Government Medical College, cannot be returned only on the request of her children.
Such a request cannot override the deceased’s express intention to donate her body for educational purposes, the court said, and also dismissed a lawsuit by her three children seeking the return of their mother’s body.
They alleged that their other siblings handed over the body to the medical school without their consent after their mother died in February. They further claimed that no action was taken despite filing a complaint with the state police chief.
