Following the global success of its Thailand-set third season, HBO’s acclaimed anthology drama “The White Lotus” may be gearing up for a distinctly European chapter, with industry speculation increasingly pointing to the French Riviera as the Season 4 backdrop.
Has The White Lotus Season 4 found its hotel in Cannes?
Reports emerging during the Cannes Film Festival have identified the iconic Hôtel Martinez in Cannes as a potential fit for the next installment of the social satire from creator Mike White. While HBO has not officially confirmed the location, the hotel quickly became a focal point of discussion among television executives, festival-goers and entertainment media observers.
According to a report published by The Hollywood Reporter, the legendary Riviera property has many of the qualities that defined the previous “White Lotus” setting: exclusivity, opulence, cultural prestige and an undercurrent of social tension beneath the luxurious hospitality.
Located on the Mediterranean coast between Cannes and Nice, Hôtel Martinez has long been associated with celebrity culture and elite European society.
The hotel is particularly synonymous with the annual Cannes Film Festival, regularly hosting private parties, studio meetings and distinguished guests away from the public glare of the Croisette.
Over the decades, the property has attracted figures from Hollywood actors and filmmakers to royalty and international business.
About The White Lotus franchise
The possibility of relocating the series to the south of France would mark another significant tonal shift for the anthology. Set in Hawaii, the first season explored privilege, colonial anxieties and class tensions against the backdrop of a tropical resort.
Season 2 moved to Sicily and focused heavily on sexuality, power and infidelity among wealthy guests at a luxury Italian hotel. The recently concluded third season moved the narrative to Thailand, exploring spirituality, wellness tourism and cultural appropriation.
Industry observers believe the Riviera setting would offer fertile ground for creator Mike White’s signature blend of satire and psychological drama.
The timing of the speculation also sparked interest. With the Cannes Film Festival once again attracting entertainment majors and international press attention, conversations about “White Lotus” have naturally intensified in hospitality and media circles.
Several luxury hotels in Europe have reportedly expressed interest in becoming the next filming location, aware of the significant increase in tourism associated with the franchise. Previous filming locations in Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand saw a noticeable increase in bookings and international visibility after the show’s launch.
The White Lotus remains one of HBO’s most commercially successful and culturally influential productions, winning multiple Emmy Awards and generating constant discussion on social media after each episode.
