Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) President Kalvakuntla Kavitha has sought the removal of Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar from the Union Council of Ministers until the investigation and trial in the POCSO case involving his son is completed.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she expressed concern over what she described as issues of “institutional propriety, legal ethics and public trust” arising from Bandi Sanjay’s continuation in the ministry while the case is investigated.
The FIR registered against the minister’s son under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) reveals the seriousness of the allegations and calls for an independent, transparent and fair investigation, she said.
Ms. Kavitha argued that keeping Bandi Sanjay in office could give the impression of a conflict of interest and raise doubts about the neutrality of the investigative process. It said public confidence in the justice system could be affected if there was any perception of political or administrative influence over police procedures, evidence gathering or witness protection.
