Sunil Narine etched his name deeper into Indian Premier League history on Saturday after becoming the first overseas cricketer and 13th player overall to complete 200 IPL appearances. The milestone came during the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Gujarat Titans clash as KKR desperately fought to stay alive in the IPL 2026 playoff race. GT won the toss and opted to bowl first, while KKR also welcomed back mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy from injury. Narine’s IPL journey started in 2012 when he made his debut for KKR against Rajasthan Royals. Over the past 14 seasons, the West Indies all-rounder has transformed into one of the league’s most impressive and all-rounders, playing a major role in KKR’s success at various times. Best known for revolutionizing T20 spin bowling with his enigmatic variations, Narine has taken 203 wickets in 200 matches at a staggering economy of 6.79, making him one of the most economical bowlers in IPL history. Even as aggressive batting increasingly dominated, Narine continued to maintain control with the ball. The 2026 season was another reminder of his value. In a tournament where scores above 200 are increasingly common, Narine has picked up 11 wickets while conceding runs at an economy of just 6.64 – figures that stand out sharply in a season full of batting. Apart from his bowling performances, Narine has also re-emerged as a dangerous power hitter at the top of the order in recent years. He has scored 1820 runs in his IPL career with a lightning strike rate of 165.30 and an average of 17.33, often giving KKR explosive starts in the powerplay. While KKR have struggled this season and are currently eighth in the points table with just four wins from 11 matches, Narine’s landmark adds another historic chapter to one of the league’s most unique careers. The three-time champions now face a must-win situation in their last three league games after their recent defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru severely damaged their play-off hopes.
