Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday issued a stern warning to Pakistan that if Pakistan continues to harbor terrorists and operate against India, then it must “decide whether they want to be part of geography or history or not”.
During an interactive session organized by ‘Uniform Unveiled’ at the Manekshaw Center in Delhi, General Dwivedi was asked how the Indian Army would react if the circumstances that led to Operation Sindoor last year were repeated or “if Pakistan gives us another chance to continue Operation Sindoor”.
The army chief said, “If you heard me say earlier… that Pakistan, if they continue to harbor terrorists and operate against India, then they have to decide whether they want to be a part of geography or history or not.”
His remarks at the ‘Sena Samwad’ event came days after the country and the Indian Army marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor.
Operation Sindoor was launched early on May 7 last year in retaliation for the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, when Indian forces carried out precision strikes on numerous terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Pakistan later also launched attacks against India and all subsequent counter-offensives by India were also carried out under Operation Sindoor.
A military standoff between the two nuclear-armed neighbors that lasted nearly 88 hours came to a halt after they reached an agreement on the evening of May 10.
The year of networks and data centricity
General Upendra Dwivedi said at Sena Samvad, a civil-military interaction, that the Indian Army is calling 2026-2027 “The Year of Networking and Data Centricity”.
“We are looking for help from the young generation to offer simple solutions to complex problems… During Op Sindoor, civil defense exercises were conducted across India by NCC cadets…,” he said.
The army chief added: “This generation is 10 times better than our generation. They are much more adaptable, risk-averse, socially aware, globally connected and digitally fluent… Today, we have cyber, space and cognitive domains in addition to land, air and sea domains…”
