Karnataka’s revenue department has been able to give solace to farmers as more than 90 per cent of the pending cases in the revenue courts headed by assistant commissioners in the state have been disposed of in the last three years, according to Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.
The minister made the announcement in a video conference with assistant commissioners of all revenue divisions of the state on Friday to review the progress with regard to disposal of pending cases, pointing out that 73,624 cases were pending in assistant commissioner courts when he assumed charge of the revenue department three years ago; but these numbers have now come down to 7,490 due to various reforms initiated in the department.
While this represented 90 per cent clarification in respect of long pending cases, officials were directed to clear other pending cases too quickly, the minister said.
He said when he took charge of the department, farmers had to run from pillar to post due to huge dependence on revenue. Since the delay in disposal of these cases has affected their lives, he has decided to give priority to expeditious disposal of such cases, the Minister explained.
Considering that such an achievement would not have been possible without the cooperation of the officials, he expressed his gratitude to them.
At the same time, the minister expressed his displeasure with Bengaluru Deputy Rural Commissioner Kiran for his lethargic and indifferent approach to clarifying the pending cases.
“While the entire state is doing well, the area I represent in the Assembly is lagging behind in processing cases. That’s why people are coming to my home office to ask about the delay,” he said.
Asking the erring official to uphold the norms, he expressed concern that such indifference by a few officials was bringing bad name to the entire bureaucracy.
