India is ready to provide all possible support to bring peace to West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday (May 15) during a meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Modi-Al Nahyan meeting came shortly after the prime minister landed in the Gulf nation on the first leg of his five-nation tour, which also includes four European countries.
We have condemned the attacks on the UAE, Mr Modi said in his opening speech at the meeting with the UAE leader. The UAE, which hosts a major US military base, has been on the receiving end of Iranian strikes during the ongoing US-Israel war against Iran.
Mr. Modi went on to say, “The way the UAE has been targeted is not acceptable,” but “the way the UAE has handled the current situation with restraint is commendable.” Emphasizing how the impact of the West Asian conflict is being felt globally, the Prime Minister added, “India is ready to extend all possible support to bring peace to West Asia. The Prime Minister was received at the airport by the President of the UAE, reflecting the importance the country attaches to Modi’s visit. The Indian leader was also accorded a guard of honour.”
I thank my brother Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his “gesture of love” when he received me at the Abu Dhabi airport, Mr Modi said on social media.
“And I look forward to our discussions to strengthen India-UAE ties across key sectors such as energy, investment, supply chains and others,” he said.
