Four members of a family died when the roof of their house collapsed during the night of May 14 due to heavy rain and wind in Moratagi village near Almel in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district.
The deceased are Gurunath Badiger (35), his wife Jyoti Badiger (28) and their children Kalamma (13) and Keerthi (9).
The victims temporarily moved into a rented house while they repaired their home. Due to heavy rain and wind, the roof collapsed on them while they were sleeping. All four were trapped under the rubble with no way to escape.
Neighbors saw the bodies on the morning of May 15.
Firefighters and emergency services cleared the debris and recovered the bodies.
Officials from the Sindagi police station visited the village, inspected the site and arranged for postmortem of the bodies. A case has been registered.
MB Patil, the district in-charge minister expressed his condolences and promised to visit the site on May 15.
