The Kerala Hotels and Restaurants Association (KHRA) has warned of strong protests, including a march to Parliament, if the central government does not resolve the LPG crisis by June 1.
The decision was taken at the KHRA state committee meeting held here on Thursday (May 14). The association has also decided to approach the Union government again with its demands. “The Union Government feigns ignorance of the crisis faced by hotels and restaurants,” state KHRA president G. Jayapal and general secretary N. Abdul Razak said in a statement issued here.
The prices of gas and other essentials have risen sharply. This left the hotel sector struggling to survive. If the situation continues, most of the hotels in the state will be forced to close. The association said it was unacceptable for the hotel industry to shoulder the burden of the domestic sector, which consumes 85% of cooking gas. Even small tea houses that use only one roller per day incur an additional cost of around ₹1,000 per day.
At the same time, it is not possible to increase the prices of meals served in hotels above a certain limit, the release added.
